First things first:

Please handle the unit with care and take your time assembling. Gently punch out shelves and clips with multiple light presses in different areas. Avoid force to prevent snapping. When adjusting shelves, use the proper technique and go slow. You’ll be a Mixrack pro soon. But right now? That’s not you. Do not go fast.

Mixrack Parts

Here are the main drawer parts of your Mixrack. Reference this as needed during assembly. If you need to communicate to us about a part, this will come in handy!

Locate Your Tool Bag.

BUILDING YOUR FRAME:

Grab the L Brackets and their screws and place the screws into the L Brackets with the silver wrench. Screw them just enough to hold them in place, don't fully screw them in yet. Each L Bracket needs 2 screws- one for each hole.

Tip: Place the screw onto your wrench first, then guide it into the hole on the L Bracket, as shown in the clip. It's just easier.

ADD L BRACKETS

After all of the screws have been added to their L Brackets, it's time to begin connecting your aluminum pieces.

The brackets only fit into the aluminum one way. Check out the illustration on the "Building Your Frame" page to show the correct orientation. They should slide into the aluminum bars as shown. If they don’t slide in, flip the bracket.

FRAME RECIPES

Locate your frame on the Frame Recipes page to understand how to arrange the aluminum. Build the front and back faces first, and then connect the rack at the top, leaving the bottom under. (This is illustrated on the bottom left page of 'Building Your Frame'.)

Create your Drawer Zones

You will have 1 or 2 wood Vertical Guides, depending on the racks you ordered. These will help you easily size out your Drawer Zones.

The shorter guide is designed for Short Zones, such as Stumps and the tops of Grizzly units, while the taller guide is intended for Tall Zones, like Cubs and the bottoms of Grizzly units.

If you have External Panels, slide them in before adding the aluminum on the sides of the unit.

To create your zones using the Vertical Guides, flip your rack upside-down. Then, place your Guide against one side, and bring the aluminum piece down to rest on top of the Guide. Make sure that the bar presses against the Guide, and then screw in the bracket to secure the bar. Then, repeat on the other side.

(This process is demonstrated using a Grizzly frame and creating a short top zone.)

Add Aluminum End Caps

Do one final check to make sure all of your External Panels have been added to your frames. Then, add your Aluminum Caps to the top and bottom aluminum pieces. A mallet will help get the piece fully secured.

Add Top

Add your screws and T-nuts to each corner of the top piece, and then place the T-nut into the aluminum. Then, tighten the screws.

Having trouble getting the nut to grab onto the screw? Here's a tip: Don't unscrew the screw so far that the t nut could come off inside the aluminum- just enough for it to get below the lip it needs to grab onto. You can try different speeds while tightening it.

ATTACHING PARTS TO YOUR ALUMINUM

Decide Direction of Drawers

You can choose which direction your Drawers pivot open. Notice in the video how the Slides are swapped depending on the direction- that's because that's what determines which way the drawers open. Once you decide on the direction, add the parts with that in mind.

Adding Rails

Attach your 9mm Screws and T Nuts to the front and back of your Rails, and place the first Rail on the bottom aluminum as shown, with the Nut resting inside of the aluminum.

Use the tip from the 'Add Top' section if the screw isn't tightening.

Space out Rails

To position your Rails using the Spacer(s), start on the side where you want the Drawers to swing. For example, if you want the Drawers to swing right (with paints on the left side of the Drawer), begin at the inside-right edge of the frame.

For the first Rail, turn the Spacer on its side. For all subsequent Rails, lay the Spacer flat. Repeat this process for the top Rails to ensure they mirror the bottom ones.

If you ordered multiple types of Drawers (Standard, Large Bottles, High Capacity), you will have multiple Spacers. Be sure to use the Spacer you want for each section- it’s entirely up to you!

ASSEMBLE DRAWERS

Assemble Drawer

One Drawer at a time, do the following:

  • SPINES: Slide in the Spines on each side. If they do not sit right, flip them the other way.
  • TOP PEG: Assemble the top spring Peg. It is made up of a Peg Box, a Spring, and a Top Peg. Then, rest it in its slot so that the Pac-Man is eating the drawer handle.
  • TOP SLIDE: Place a Slide on top and use the 11 mm Screws and Black Nuts to attach it. Remember to place it on the side that you want- and continue to think about that throughout building your drawers so that you don't have double work. (We've been there!)
  • BOTTOM PEG AND SLIDE: Next, add your bottom peg with the pac-man again "eating the handle". The bottom peg should be aligned with the top peg. Add another Slide and attach in the same way as you did the top!

When the Drawer is built, all screws should be on one side with the nuts on the other, and both Slides should be facing the same way. If they aren't, make sure to adjust that now.

Add Your Drawers to Your Rack

Simply angle the drawer and place the bottom peg on the Rail, then press down on the top peg to get that onto the Rail. Then slide in! And how are we going to do this? Slowly and carefully. That's right.

Add Shelves

As we carefully punch out your shelves and clips and put them together, we will be assembling in the following way:

Take your shelf and add the first clip, so that the hook on the clip is on the same side as the extending piece on the shelf. Then, slide the clear acrylic Guard through the clip and into its center slot.

When adding the second Clip, place your thumb on the Guard and gently push away from the Shelf. Then place the Clip in the Guard, and fit it into the slot while slowly bringing the clip down and around the shelf into place.

Now that the shelf is assembled, place it on the Drawer wherever you would like. Do this by angling the Shelf as shown in the video, and once the clips are in, use a finger to touch the bottom middle section to lower it into place.

ADD PAINTS!

Now, the fun part. Add your paints to your rack!

(We like to start at the bottom shelf, then place a paint bottle on the shelf to measure, place the next shelf, etc.)

Add Accessories

Use the appropriate hardware to attach accessories to your rack. Loosen the hardware slightly to adjust their position, then tighten it securely to lock them in place.

Add Swatch Rails

When adding Swatch Rails to your shelves, locate your Swatch-specific hooks. Add those hooks and the regular guard to the inner notch. Then, add the Swatch Rail to the outer notch.
Paint your Swatches. Use the included Palette if desired. Then, add the Swatches to the rail by applying light pressure and pushing in the Swatches. Use glue or the included glue dots to secure the Swatches.

Add Tube Hanging Shelves

Locate the 4 pieces that you need to make your Hanging Shelf. Remembering that all hooks and tabs face the back, add the main tube piece (with the 'U' Shapes), to the top of the hook, and the other piece to the bottom. The 2 tabs of the top piece should rest right into the other piece. This will happen naturally as you hang the shelf on the Drawer.
